ABOUT
Victor Velasco is Venezuelan writer and director based in Los Angeles.is a Los Angeles-based Venezuelan writer and director with a passion for creating raw dramas with fantastical elements and strong visuals. His work draws inspiration from the human condition, nostalgia, and the fantastic elements of Latin American Literature.
Victor’s latest film ANGELICA just started the festival circuit and already got selected in the Oscar-Qualifying Festival LA Shorts and Hola Mexico as part of Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today. His previous short film, SPOON, has been selected for more than 30 film festivals, including the Oscar-Qualifying Festivals of SITGES, Interfilm Berlin, and USA FILM FESTIVAL, where it received an Honorific Award. The film was sold to Canal Plus in French territories.
His cyberpunk short film, SHINOBI, was featured in Director’s Notes and CG Society and has been accepted into multiple festivals, including the Oscar-Qualifying Cleveland Film Festival. The film features Maximiliano Hernandez (The Walking Dead, Sicario, Captain America: Winter Soldier).
In addition to his work as a writer and director, Victor is also a motion graphic designer and VFX artist. He has worked with companies such as Netflix, Universal Music, Def Jam Records, Nike, Oakley, and Marvel and renowned artists such as Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Elton John, and Karol G.
Currently, he is developing his feature film debut, I Have Wings But I Cannot Fly which explores the struggles of a single mother whose son starts turning into a bird. Drawing on his own intimate experiences with his mother, Victor adds a metaphorical turn with the fantastical element of the shape-shifting bird son to explore the "bird leaving the nest" theme. A proof of concept short treatment won the New Filmmaker’s LA New Narratives Grant of 2023 funded by the Rhulen Family Foundation and it’s currently in the pre-production phase.
